After more than a hundred dead seals were found on the rock formation on Elands Bay on Thursday, the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA) has successfully concluded their investigation.
According to the CEO of the Cape of Good Hope SPCA Alan Perrins a team was sent yesterday morning to go investigate the situation surrounding the death of the seals and to suspect if any foul play was committed.
“They found traces of diarrhoea on the rocks and will be bringing a faecal sample back for further analysis to see whether the stormy weather which occurred in the region on Christmas eve, coupled with any other natural phenomenon might of caused a contribution to the death of seals,” says Perrins.
Perrins elaborated that what the investigators saw was that no foul play was suspected and no-one else came further to report any information or suspicious activity.
“We are subsequently happy that we have conducted the investigation and believe to report in our opinion that there is no reason for concern and the seals probably died as a result of natural causes,” he said.
