City’s Copperheads come down on crime syndicate

The City of Cape Town’s Copperheads department has come down on a major crime syndicate who stole thousands of rands of petrol. The 6 men involved stole fuel master units from council vehicles and fitted them onto taxis and other vehicles. This made it possible for them to purchase fuel at the City’s expense.

Spokesperson Pieter Van Dalen says that the City is clamping down on corruption and fraud and urges the community to contact the department if they can assist in any way.

“We are taking a zero tolerance stand against this corruption and the busting of the syndicate with the BP fuel master device, we are quite happy with it. We think its part of a bigger operation in the whole country and we want to warn big corporate companies to watch the fuel usage of their vehicles.

The contact number for the City’s anti-crime and anti-corruption hotline is: 0800 32 31 30.
