Bishop Lavis Police conducted several random, unannounced searches, supported by sniffer dogs at five high-risk schools.
During their searches they nabbed a 17-year-old learner at John Ramsay High School, in possession of dagga.
In addition, a dagga pipe was found hidden inside the schoolbag of another learner at the Bishop Lavis High School.
“They were handed over respectively to their school principals, who called in their parents and the school governing body, to deal with disciplinary steps,” said Inspector November Filander.
The 16-member contingent was supported by Dog Unit members, who handled a narcotic and an explosive dog.
The operation was started following recent school violence and stabbings at schools across the Cape Metro area.
“Apart from John Ramsey and Bishop Lavis High School, classrooms at Arcadia High and Bonteheuwel High in Bonteheuwel and Beauvelon High in Valhalla Park were searched,” added Filander.
Teaching staff and the community at all the schools welcomed the random searches of boys and girls.
