The National Institute for Communicable Diseases has confirmed yesterday, that the Western Cape is leading on the number of swine flu casualties in the country.
This is after the death of a 42 year old Johann Hack from Strand, who died last week.
“Yesterday afternoon the NICD confirmed that the man died after he was affected by the H1N1virus,” said Western Cape Departmental Spokesperson Faiza Styne.
Hack’s death follows one of a 22 year old Ruan Muller of Durbanville, who died last month.
This brings the number of casualties to three in the country after the virus claimed life of a 15 year old boy from the Free State.
“We have currently 450 confirmed cases in the province” added Styne.
