Family of five dies in a Mitchells plain fire

Five family members died in a fire in Tafelsig, Mitchells Plain in the early hours on Saturday.

The City of Cape Town’s Fire & Rescue Services, Jermaine Carelse said that fire crews were called at 04:08 and was told that three girls were still trapped inside the Wendy house.

“When Mitchells plain fire station arrived at the scene at Buffelshoek Street, they found a wendy house engulfed in flames. A man, woman and three girls were declared deceased on scene and one boy was treated for burn wounds and transported to a nearby hospital,” said Jermaine Carelse.

He further added: Fire crews extinguished the blaze an hour later. The scene was handed over to the South African Police Services for further investigation.
