SA universities strictly online under level 4 lockdown

Universities across South Africa would not officially close, but all in person classes and exams must be postponed for the next two-weeks.

Higher Education Minister Blade Nzimande on Wednesday announced measures that the higher education sector implemented under the adjusted level 4 lockdown regulations, announced by president Cyril Ramaphosa on Sunday, and what these regulations mean for academic classes, on student accommodation, and graduation ceremonies and events.

The minister said after communicating with all vice-chancellors that students would shift exclusively to online learning until it is safe to return.

Residences will also remain open to prevent learners from travelling back home in a bid to limit the spread of the virus.

The minister said the measures put in place would help curb several cluster outbreaks on campuses across South Africa.
