The African National Congress says it is satisfied with the outcome of yesterday’s urgent Pretoria High Court application to prevent the use of names similar to that of the ANC.
The application was I brought against the reported plans of Mosiuoa Lekota’s breakaway group to adopt the name South Africa National Convention or South Africa National Congress, both abbreviated to SANC, at its national gathering in Sandton, Johannesburg, this weekend.
The court did not make a finding on the merits of the case, and postponed it to Thursday.
ANC media liaison officer Brian Sokuthu says the judge nevertheless commented that the ruling party, as the applicant, may well have grounds for concern over the reported name plans
Sokuthu added that rumours the ANC tried to prevent the convention from taking place are false.
