City of Cape Towns appeal to residents before Guy Fawkes

The City of Cape Town is appealing to all residents to be safety-conscious when handling fireworks as the 5 November, Guy Fawkes Day draws closer.

Disaster Management’s Wilfred Solomons-Johannes says “members of the community are being warned that the law enforcement authorities will be very strict in enforcing the law and fines of R600 or 12 months imprisonment can be imposed to those who are contravening the law.”

Solomons-Johannes also said that the City of Cape Town is appealing to all residents not to disturb or harm any animals during Guy Fawkes celebrations and that there are designated areas that people are able to discharge displays of fireworks in order to prevent this. Below you will find the list of areas:

*Mnandi Beach parking area (near Law Enforcement office)
* Maiden’s Cove parking area* Strandfontein Beach parking area
* Vygieskraal Stadium parking area

HELDERBERG
* Gordon’s Bay Main Beach
* Strand Beach (at Deep Blue)
* Macassar Beach

SOUTH PENINSULA
* Sunrise Beach, Muizenberg
* Fish Hoek Beach (gravel parking area between the lifesavers clubhouse and the lighthouse)
* Hout Bay Beach

TYGERBERG
* De Grendel Sports Ground, Parow
* Sleepy Hollow Park, Elsies River
* Nooitgedacht Sports Ground, Bishop Lavis
* Sports Ground in Roosendal Street, Delft

OOSTENBERG
* Blue Downs Sports Stadium, Hindle Road, Delft

BLAAUWBERG
* Mamre Park, opposite SAPS
* Wesfleur Sportsfield, Atlantis
