A reply to a Democratic Alliance parliamentary question has revealed that almost a third of tour guides in South Africa are not registered according to the specifications of the Tourism Second Amendment Act. There are currently 8689 registered tour guides in South Africa while 4000 are not registered.
DA’s Member of Parliament Gareth Morgan says that there are a number of benefits to being a registered tour guide and most importantly you contribute to brand South Africa.
Morgan also says “I urge the minister of Environmental Affairs and Tourism to train tourist guides and to register them appropriately. With 2010 around the corner there is much more that can be done.”
The DA believes that this can create many opportunities so that everyone can benefit from opportunities in the tourism sector.
