The South African Institute of Race Relations reported today that South Africa's adult literacy level is falling behind other up-and-coming markets even though it spends more on it.

The adult literacy rate for South Africa is 89%.  Jonathan Snyman a researcher at the institute says the way forward would be backing up the quality of teaching at school level and focusing on the dedication of teachers and principals.

United Nations says that adult literacy rate reflects the number of people aged 15 years and above who can read, write, and speak.
