Smith said they are working hard with the
Hawks to ensure that there are convictions for the people who are involved in
sex trade especially those who are busy ruining the lives of young people.
Meanwhile Smith said the City’s Vice Squad
has been trying to clamp down on various parts of the sex trade in three ways
including street walkers, residential brothels and trafficking cases.
Over the weekend operations were conducted
in Parow and Goodwood dealing with illegal property.
Smith said street walkers and properties
that are being used as brothels in residential areas generate lost of
complaints. The city reacts to this by
using the Land use legislation and the Business Act.
“Our unit also deals with trafficking cases
and we have had a few successes in rescuing young woman and in some cases men
who have been brought into this industry often under false pretences and
promises”.
