One suspect arrested in latest Khayelitsha shooting

Investigation into the latest mass shooting incident in Khayelitsha has resulted in the arrest of one suspect.

On Sunday night, six men were shot dead in the Taiwan informal settlement a third mass shooting in in area since March.

According to Western Cape Police Commissioner Thembisile Patekile they are hunting for several more suspects.

"At this stage, we know that there were three people seen running away from the scene. It could be either that they running either as the victim or as part of it," Commissioner Patekile said.

Patekile said that they cannot rule out extortion or gang violence. He said that in particular the township gangs of Khayelitsha are well known for their  relationship between gang violence, taxi violence, extortion.

Arrests have yet to be made and motive had not been established.
