The National Sea Rescue Institute says it is expecting loads of people to hit the beache today. Thus, NSRI is appealing to everyone to exercise caution at the city's beaches.
“Go to beaches where and when lifeguards are on duty. Children should have responsible adult supervision when they go swimming be it inland, swimming pools or at the coast,” says NSRI spokesperson Craig Lambinon.
Lambion offers beachgoers saftey tips:
*Parents should always know where their children are, especially when they go swimming.
*Anyone who launches any kind of craft into the sea, should have a properly fitting and correctly fastened life jacket.
*If you see someone that is in distress in the water, preferably don't launch a rescue unless there are floating objects or they are strong swimmers nearby.
*If you call the NSRI, stay on the scene. The NSRI will call you back to get an update whilst the rescuers are responding to the scene.
Anyone who gets into difficulty and needs emergency assistance can contact the NSRI on 082 911.
