This morning Solidarity’s Helping Hand met with representatives from the Cape Town municipality regarding the growing problem of poverty in the community of Ruyterwacht. This was the second meeting of its kind, following a visit by Cape Town’s Mayor, Hellen Zille in September.
According to Solidarity’s Ilze Nieuwoudt, the meeting between the two parties was a success as the challenges faced by the community was finally being addressed.
“The Cape Town Municipality gave very positive feedback on issues that will improve the lives of the residents of Ruyterwacht.”
Solidarity has expressed their concerns with regards to the crisis surrounding social services, saying that the issues were not being adequately addressed.
“Helping Hand would like to ensure that the interests of the Ruiterwaght residents are being looked after,” said Nieuwoudt.
