Home affairs calls for people to collect IDs

The department of home affairs has asked people who have applied for IDs particularly in the last three to six months to go and collect their IDs.

Home Affairs spokesperson Siobhan McCarthy said there are two-hundred thousand IDs that were produced in the last three months that were not collected.

“At the present moment we have improved our production time, and we are now producing between 40 and 50 000 IDs in one week”

McCarthy said once people receive an SMS saying their ID is ready for them to come and collect it.

There is other 100 000 IDs that have been sitting in the offices for up to a year.

If people have applied for IDs can call the departments offices on 0800 60 1190 .
