Free State police have shot dead two hijackers who had been keeping a farmer hostage in his car for more than 20 hours.
The drama unfolded yesterday when a farmer and his wife were attacked on their farm in Petrusburg.
A neighbour who raced to their assistance was also taken hostage in his car and the two men were shot by police snipers early this morning.
The hijacked farmer received minor injuries and has been taken to hospital.
