The Cape Town shutdown caused mayhem for many commuters as
several roads were affected this morning. The people were protesting under the banner
of Gatvol Capetonians. One of the most heavily affected areas were Ocean View,
Delfts, The Stellenbosch arterial road, Kensington, Voortrekker road and Bo
Kaap. The protest caused a lot of inconveniences for people traveling to the
CBD.
The people’s claims were that the Western Cape government don’t
value their housing needs and that the protest is about their housing needs.
The protest was meant to be a peaceful one as promised by the Gatvol Capetonian
spoke person Mr. Fadiel Adams. However stunt grenades were used when the
protesters were starting to get violent and burning tires. The promise of
peaceful protesting was made to the Western Cape government.
The Western Cape Human Settlement MEC Tertius Simmers said “The
