In commemoration of many of the victim of crime and senseless violence in local communities, the social justice group Moms Move for Justice marched to parliament today. Community members, community organisations, non-profit organisations and religious groups. At the Cape Town Castle of Good Hope is where the vigil began at 10am this morning, ending with the purpose of handing over a memorandum of demands.

Moms Mom for Justice was started in 2015 by Avril Andrews as a resource for grieving mothers with the loss of their children to gang violence. Creating this group was both healing and comforting for Avril Andrews as it serves as a support group of mothers who faced similar circumstances. This being the 4th commemoration of hundreds of murdered victims they call on government to urgently address Moms Move for Justice accompanied by various organisations to help curb   gender-based violence, crime and gangsterism.

989 children have been murdered in the last five years these statistics were released by the provincial government for child murders in the Western Cape. The majority of the children were boys with the number of 807 where 182 girls were targeted.
