Protestors demand state of emergency

Protestors demand state of emergency

A group of police with riot vehicles have stopped protestors who are mainly students, from entering the Cape Town International Convention Centre where the World Economic Forum is currently underway. The #AmINext had a silent protest where they gathered at the train, taped their mouths and marched in silence to the CTICC. In the same instance the #RememberNene protestors, UCT students and members of the public, had a picket at the gates of Parliament and later joined the silent protestors at the CTICC.

The protestors are demanding action from President Cyril Ramaphosa surrounding the ongoing problems of femicide and gender-based violence in South Africa. President Cyril Ramaphosa is attending the World Economic Forum at the CTICC and has yet to respond to the protestors’ concerns.
