Remembering Nene: Rising
against sexual and gender-based violence.
UCT and members of the public
have gathered at the gates of parliament to take a stand and rise against
sexual and gender-based violence. Members of the public have come out in large
crowds to support the cause. UCT has declared today, a day of mourning and UCT
activism against sexual and gender-based violence. Many people were sharing
their messages of solidarity, UCT SRFC President, Asanda Lobelo and UCT VC
Proffessor, Mamokgethi Phakeng addressed the crowd and joined in song.
In Salt River, Thandokhulu
School kids took to the streets in song, in plight of the recent violence
against women and children. The large mass of protestors has left Parliament
and marched towards Cape Town Convention Centre where the World Economic Forum
is currently underway. Joining the Silent Protestors of this morning they are
now chanting “We want Cyril Ramaphosa.”
