A 50-year-old man will appear in the Cape Town Magistrates Court on Tuesday, after he was nabbed with more than R3 million’s worth of tik.
In a statement, police said officers on Sunday afternoon
conducted crime prevention patrols in Maitland when they received information
of drugs which are being sold from a business situated in Koeberg Road,
Brooklyn.
‘’The members operationalised the information and pounced
on the shop where they encountered a suspicious male behind the counter. Upon
noticing the members approaching, he ran to the back of the shop where he
entered another room. After he exited the room on request from the members,
they ensued with a search of the premises and discovered a box with plastic
bags containing about 9.5 kg of methamphetamine (tik) with an estimated value
of R3,34 million in an adjacent room,’’ said Lt Col Malcolm Pojie, Western Cape
police spokesperson.
The Nigerian national was charged with dealing in drugs.
In an unrelated incident, and a 38-year-old man was
arrested in Phillipi on Monday, for the possession for drugs.
‘’At about 14:30… Members attached to the Cape Town Flying
Squad followed up on information of possible drugs being sold at dwelling in
the Sqaulo squatter camp which led the members to an address where they found
the suspect in possession of 17 packets of tik and a small quantity of mandrax
in his possession. The suspect was detained at Philippi SAPS for the possession
of drugs and is scheduled to appear in the Athlone Magistrates’ court today,’’
said Pojie.
