Western Cape MEC for Transport and Public works, Marius Fransman launched the Women in Construction Campaign today. The campaign which is aimed at an intervention to make life easier for women to enter the construction industry will accelerate not only the entry of women, but the development as well. The MEC said that the mindset that the construction industry is for men only must change. The cause for this campaign is due to the 2004/2005 financial year in road infrastructure as women owned companies were only 5% of the total value of projects. Fransman says over the next few years the percentage is expected to increase by 15%.
