AfriForum Youth says prospective medical students are rejected in South Africa on grounds of their race, while universities in the United States pay them to study there.

The civil rights group has submitted complaints about the situation to the Human Rights Commission against the Department of Health, the Health Professions Council of South Africa and all eight local medical schools.

Spokesperson of AfriForum Youth Ebert Grobler said now that these students have applied abroad and in one instance the student has actually received a grant in an American Texas University they also receive a salary.

“What is happening is a form of reverse discrimination where white students are not receiving the same opportunities as for onstance black and coloured student,”

Grobler said opportunities are going to waste because great students are leaving the country.
