A city energy expert has warned that more than 60% of the City’s diesel supply might be contaminated.
Two major hospitals that were found to be storing these fuels were Groote Schuur and Tygerberg Hospital.
The contamination could cause water seepage which could result in an engine failure in generators.
Tests were done by an Observatory-based fuel decontamination company.
The company said the fuel contained solid contaminants such as scale, sludge and rust flakes.
