A student at the University of Stellenbosch was stabbed nine times on Tuesday, as he returned home from his lecture.
Adriaan Diedericks, a first year BA student, was walking through Jan Marais Park when a man approached him and demanded his cellphone.
Captain Renee Mathee, of the Stellenbosch SA Police Service, said “an unknown suspect had tried to rob Adriaan of his cellphone, but he resisted and a fight ensued and Adriaan was stabbed twice in his one arm, once in his other arm and under one of his lungs”.
The man did not manage to still the cellphone. Adriaan is in a stable condition and recovering at Stellenbosch Medi- clinic.
Police are investigating a case of assault, as the suspect is still at large.
