Western Cape Police are investigating the death of a 44-year-old police officer.

This is after his body was found next to his police vehicle in Culemborg Street Worcester.

Captain FC van Wyk said the cause of his death is yet to be determined as he had no visible injuries.

"The member was on duty and dressed in uniform. Prior to the incident, he attended a housebreaking incident in the area, and while his colleague was preparing the case docket, the deceased patrol the area on his own.
Preliminary investigation indicated that the deceased left his vehicle at about 04:20 and was heard addressing a person or people in the road.” Van Wyk added.
