Being one of the leading causes of death and
disabilities in the United States. Reports state that one in 10 Americans have
diabetes meaning that is about over 30 million Americans who are living with
the chronic disease. Health Finder has reported that about 84 million adults
will eventually develop type 2 diabetes but they are ways to avoid it getting
to that stage.
The American Diabetes Month is there to create
and raise awareness and to encourage people to make healthy changes. The Health
Finder has a few tips to manage your health which include encourage people to
make small changes and ask doctors and nurses to be leaders in their
communities by speaking about the importance of healthy eating and physical
activity. The main point for the month is for communities to come together and
spread attention on diabetes and the importance of going for check-ups.
People living with diabetes have high risks of
getting heart diseases and are more likely to get stroke compared to people
living without diabetes. The Take Diabetes to Heart Foundation has an initiative
which helps educate the communities about the importance of checking and taking
care about what they eat. They are also in partnership with the National Heart,
Lung and Blood Institution.
