ANC denies reports of a split

The United Democratic Movement says the mistakes that have been made by the African National Congress are starting to show at grassroots level and a break away in the ANC would boost South Africa’s democracy because over the last 15 years South Africa is been dominated by one party.

United Democratic Movement leader Bantu Holomisa says this ANC split can be good for the countries because if you look at the checks and balance enshrine in the country’s constitution.

Meanwhile the African National congress has dismissed rumours of a new party as well as allegations that the ANC is lead by the communist party. The party say the communist party and Cosatu are their alliance partners and its been so for many years.

Analyst say that it is difficult to predict whether the will be a split between the ANC that will eventually lead to the formation of a new party .

University of the Western Cape’s constitutional expert Pierre de Vos says people still feel strong connection with the ANC because they see it as the only liberation movement.

He adds that to be successful in an election you need people on the ground to mobilise so it will be very difficult for a new party.
