The Democratic Alliance has called on the new speaker for Parliament Gwen Mahlangu-Nkabinde to ensure that MPs who have been involved in the Travelgate saga and owe money pay it back.
This follows last week’s announcement by parliament that it was buying back the debt owed by MP’s.
The D.A says Parliament is supposed to be the shining light in upholding the values of transparency and accountability in government.
If it fails to take a principled stance against MPs in this matter, this will send out the message that there is no harm in undermining the values of our constitutional democracy in the pursuit of personal interests.
D.A MP Ian Davidson says the member of parliament involved must be disciplined for utilising travel gate voucher in a manner that they were not design for.
