Despite current weather conditions upgrades for Green Point Stadium still on track. The roof will look like a flat bicycle wheel which will rest on seventy-two pillars; the roof has been designed in order to deflect noise back into the bowl to cover spectators but not the pitch area.
City of Cape Town’s Peter Cronjie says “the stadium was designed to incorporate all the lighting for the stadium so there is no need for high mast lighting.”
Cronjie also says that “this is the most significant and also most expensive subcontractor at four-hundred-and-thirty-million for the stadium and it signals the end of the super structure construction from on the specialists’ subcontractors will move in and complete the roof.”
The stadium is said to be ready by the 15th of December 2009, four days ahead of schedule.
