The National Union of Mineworkers says over four-and-a-half-thousand of its members downed tools this afternoon at Pamodzi Gold‘s East Rand operations after parties failed to resolve a dispute over wages. Among the NUM’s demands is a 12-percent wage hike.
The union’s negotiator at Pamodzi says workers still receive a minimum wage of one-thousand-and-89-rands per month at a time of economic turbulence.
Num’s Thomas Ketsise says our members have decided to down tools due to the stubbornness of the employers not wanting to increase salaries.
He added that workers should earn the same amount of salaries even those of old Pamozi Gold East Rand.
