Green Point stadium contractors have started the process of lifting the roof of the 2010 World Cup stadium.
This process has been described as a momentous milestone, building up to the event.
This process is described to be similar to that of the tightening of the spokes of a bicycle wheel.
72 radial cables will connect the steel compression ring that is visible above the stadium to an inner tension ring around the pitch.
Work on the stadium is scheduled to be complete by 14 December this year, when it will be officially handed over by the contractors to the City of Cape Town.
