An accident late last night in Malvern, Durban left one person dead and another critically injured.

It is believed that the pedestrian was trying to cross the road when he was hit by the car.

Netcare 911 Spokesperson Chris Botha said when paramedics arrived on the scene they found the pedestrian laying on the ground. Tragically the person died on the scene due to the very extensive injuries that he had sustained.

Botha said the driver was still trapped in the vehicle and therefore he had to be execrated from the vehicle and he was rushed to hospital for further medical care.

The exact details of the cause of the accident will remain the subject of a police investigation.
