The Ministry of Justice and Correctional Services today announced that an application for leave to appeal against a decision to release Janusz Walus on parole will be heard on April 12.

The appeal, to be heard at the High Court in Pretoria, automatically suspends the order that bound Justice Minister Michael Masutha to place Walus on parole and set his conditions within 14 days, the ministry said in a statement.

"The minister believes that the honourable court erred in its judgment and is of the view that there are prospects of success on appeal and that the appeal court will arrive at a different conclusion‚" the ministry said in an earlier statement.
