Macassa family feeling unsafe after police raid their home following fake news of human remains on premisses

The Western Cape Police spokesperson Warrant Officer Joseph Swartbooi said expressed his disappoint in the people forging false news. This comes after detectives revisited the case of a woman who went missing 12 years ago, various social media posts claimed Coetzee's remains were found by the police.

Denise Margarete Coetzee was reported missing on 22 September 2010.

On Wednesday, detectives, crime scene management, and forensics excavated a site believed to contain Coetzee's remains near Oklahoma in Macassar.

A Macassar family is still devastated after police rocked up at their home in Oklahoma Street in Macassar following the fake news. While no remains were found on the premises, fake news started spreading on social media speculating who the “murderer” could be. The family said they were now fearing their lives as they been experiencing discrimination from its members.
