On Thursday Russian President Vladimir Putin announced a “military operation” in Ukraine. Putin called for Ukrainian soldiers to lay down their weapons, and that “peacekeepers” would be put in place. Russia has 200,000 soldiers stationed at its border with Ukraine.

Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelensky attempted to reach out to President Putin, but to no avail. Ukraine has called for its 3 million citizens living in Russia to return home. Calling for unity and peace among the people of Ukraine. Members of the United Nations called for peace, saying that there was no need for violence, and that a potential war could displace over 5 million people causing a new European refugee crisis.

Ukraine has received anti- tank weapons and drones from NATO members. Most of this has come for allies who were trying to deter Russia from invading. Shelling has intensified near several cities in Ukraine; a soldier was killed on Wednesday. This is the sixth death in four days; with civilians in the area being fearful of what will happen next.
