Thousands of mineworkers are marching to the Chamber of Mines’ offices in Johannesburg.
They are protesting against what they see as racist practices in the mining construction sectors and lack of transformation. Members of the National Union of Mineworkers’ seven regions gathered at Beyer’s Naudé Square this morning.
The NUM will hand a memorandum to the Chamber of Mines, Business Unity South Africa, the Department of Minerals and Energy and the Mining Qualifications Authority.
Num’s spokesperson Lesiba Seshoka says after 14 years of democracy still no change for the better in the mining industry.
Seshoka added that it’s either the industry changes by its self or we will make them change through industrial action.
