African National Congress chief whip in the Gauteng Legislature Mandla Nkomfe has been appointed the province’s new MEC for finance and economic development.
He replaces Paul Mashatile, who was sworn in yesterday as new Gauteng premier.
Mashatile takes over from Mbhazima Shilowa, who resigned in the wake of the ANC’s decision to recall former president Thabo Mbeki from office. Forty-seven-year-old Mashatile was elected unopposed.
In his first speech as premier, Mashatile identified crime as enemy number one. The newly are appointed premiere is set to appear before parliament committee.
