A veteran politician and anti apartheid activist Mrs Helen Suzman has died at the age of 91. This was confirmed by her daughter Frances Joel.
Joel told media reports that she died peacefully at her Johannesburg home and she will be buried this weekend in a private funeral.
Helen Suzman, one of South Africa's most celebrated anti-apartheid campaigners. Suzman was publicly critical of apartheid and was a threat to the National Party under leaders such as John Vorster and P W Botha.
She was also nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize twice and praised by human rights organisations from around the world.
