Lusanda Bill
7 September 2010
Many schools had been closed in the last twenty days as public sector workers embarked on a strike.
On Monday 82 of the 1 478 schools were closed in the province.
Today schools have opened as the strike has been called off, while negotiations with government and unions continue.
The South African Democratic Teachers’ Union (Sadtu) will be meeting with the Western Cape education department to discuss what could be done about the incomplete curriculum and the September exams, that were disrupted during the strike.
The Western Cape education department stated that 61 of the schools in the province last week had their exams disrupted or had not even started writing the September exams.
