Cape train crash taxi driver out on bail

The taxi driver who was arrested for the deaths of 10 children in a train crash was granted bail of R20 000 at the Blue Downs Magistrate court on Tuesday morning.

Jacob Humphrey’s allegedly passed a row of stationery cars at a level crossing boom in Blackheath when his taxi collided with a train. Eight children died on the scene and two died in hospital.

Humprey’s was charged with 10 counts of culpable homicide.

The state decided not to oppose this bail application and said he was not a flight risk.

There was a strong huge presence this morning as a crowd gathered outside the court.

He spent the last 7 days in Pollsmoor Prison since first appearance in court last week.
