Crime prevention operation by police in the province netted 221 arrests at the weekend. The operation included the searching of houses for drugs, illegal firearms and ammunition.
Police spokesperson warrant officer November Filander says stolen and counterfeit goods were confiscated and illegal shebeens, licensed liquor stores, containers, storage facilities and spaza shops were also visited and several roadblocks were executed.
“We confiscated 4241 grams of tik, 2173 mandrax tablets, 1630 grams of cocaine, 4259 grams of khat, 67058 grams of dagga, 44 firearms, 171 cellphones, 22 stolen vehicles, 43601 litres of liquor, 3073 units of abalone and 11643 items of counterfeit goods.
“The South African Police Services will continue with these operations and appeals to law abiding citizens to report all illegal activities at their nearest police stations or contact the Crime Stop toll-free number on 08600 10111,” said Filander.
