Surveillance footage captured on the City’s “Big Brother” CCTV cameras have led to the arrest of five suspects involved in three separate incidents.
At the weekend, Metro Police seized a card cloning device near an ATM at St George’s Mall in the CBD which led to the arrest of two suspects.
Meanwhile in Phillippi, two suspects were arrested for the possession of a stolen vehicle.
Metro Police’s Nowellen Petersen says the footage also assisted with the arrest of another two suspects the previous day.
“On Monday, the Metro Police Control Room’s CCTV surveillance operators were monitoring the feed when they spotted two suspects breaking into a Honda Ballade parked on Strand Street, opposite The Castle.
“Metro Police and Central City Improvement District security staff were immediately notified and dispatched to the location. Upon arriving at the scene, they found that the two suspects were still trying to break into the vehicle,” says Peterson.
Both suspects were arrested on the scene and face charges for attempted theft out of a motor vehicle.
