Two people are expected appear in the Mitchell’s Plain Magistrate’s Court today on fraud charges after allegedly posing as estate agents in the area.
Police spokesperson Constable Jerome Voegt says since September last year, the two suspects visited various houses in the Mitchell’s Plain area under name “Rogers Property”. They would then inform the residents that they would obtain houses for prospective buyers and they had to pay a deposit of R 2000.00 to secure the purchase of the said property.
Voegt says the amount was then either paid in full or through instalments.
“The prospective buyers would have received the keys of their homes at the end of last month. The handing over of the keys never materialized,” says Voegt.
The Mitchell’s Plain police are requesting members of the public who were defrauded in the same manner to contact the investigating officer Detective Constable Xolani Poni on 021-370 281/7.
