Four people face charges of fraud after contravention of the Electronic Communication and Transaction Act following reports of cards being compromised at a restaurant in the city.

Police spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Andre Traut says the arrested happened after the investigation was kept under surveillance by members of the South African Police Service.

“Working with management, the suspected waiters were identified and identified during the earl hours of Wednesday.

“Two skimmed devices and cloned bank cards were found in their possession. A cellar phones in their possession also contained card numbers of compromised cards,” said Traut

Traut added that a search of the residences of all four resulted in confiscation of two laptops, containing details of numerous compromised cards as well as the software which enabled them to download skimmed information and re-encode in onto other cards.

Cash to the value of R5500 was also seized and they will appear before the Cape Town Magistrates Court today.
