SADTU wants physical education to be a separate subject at schools

The South African Democratic Teachers Union wants all schools to offer physical education as a separate subject.

Sadtu Western Cape Secretary Jonovan Rustin said “We are of the opinion that as part of health issues in our society, physical education played a very important role in promoting exercise amongst our kids”.

Sports Minister Fikile Mbalula announced that he wanted to make Physical Education compulsory at schools.

Provincial Sports MEC Ivan Meyer said “We believe that more children and more adults in particular should take part in sports and physical activities. Therefore we have a huge campaign in the Western Cape to engage young children, especially school children, to get involved”.
