UDM concerned about the state of education i the Eastern Cape

The United Democratic Movement has expressed its concern about the quality of education in the Eastern Cape over what they call continuation of chaos by the ruling party.

UDM spokesperson on education Lennox Gaehler says for the past few years the administration has failed to deliver the most basic education service to people of that province.

“Every single year the same problems recur, leaving us with only one conclusion: the ANC Provincial Government does not have the political will to address these issues or properly plan to prevent their recurrence.

“It is simply unacceptable that there has been a failure to adequately budget and then out of the blue cancel the contracts of more than 4000 temporary teachers. Once again hundreds of schools have not received their textbooks, and school meals and transport for remote rural schools have been cancelled,” said Gaehler.

Whilst we are thankful that in the aftermath of this latest series of disasters the national department of Education have announced that some of these issues would be immediately addressed, we are sceptical whether anything will change, since 16 years of repeated failure seems to indicate otherwise.
