There is concerns as the EFF leads a multi-party shutdown in Cape Town.

The EFF reports that all is set for Monday's multi-party shutdown of the province in protest of taxi impoundments, commuter harassment, and service delivery.

The South African National Taxi Association declared that operations will continue as usual, but the ANC withdrew its backing on Sunday, stating it opposed any kind of stoppage.

Following violent taxi strikes by operators and associations in August over the impounding of cabs, there has been a shutdown.

"We are calling for the immediate release of all wrongfully impounded mini-bus taxis, for the City to issue all taxi operating permits and licences swiftly, and the scrapping of all the exorbitant fines targeted at the taxi drivers”, said EFF province spokesperson Wandile Kasibe.

Neville Delport, a spokesman for the ANC in the province, urged his followers not to take part in the strike. The ANC pulling its support was not unexpected, according to Kasibe.
