The high-ferry service to Robben Island, one of Cape Town’s main tourist attraction, was stopped and replaced by old, slow apartheid-era vessels previously used to transport political prisoners to the island.
According to the Weekend Argus, a proper replacement service will only be ready next year.
The report stated that the Robben Island Museum, which falls under the department of arts and Culture, had been putsourcing the running of the ferry to the Autshumato ferry company, but declined to renew its contract when it expired this week.
