Almost 100 Solidarity members have been trapped under ground against their will for more than 24 hours because of 1 200 mine workers that are participating in a sitting strike.
The trade union demands that the management of the Beatrix mine outside Welkom, should bring its trapped members to the surface immediately and that their safety should be guaranteed.
Mine workers are currently 900m under ground on the fifth level of the mine.
Solidarity says that it will hold mine management responsible should anything happen to its members.
Strikers are apparently unhappy about certain internal grievances.
